A day in the life of Vasile Lupasc, Romanian writer and World Champion in Karate.

A typical day for me is relaxing, relaxing, and more…relaxing! It sounds bad or that I am a millionaire. Actually neither is true. I am one of the fortunate few who does what he absolutely loves. In my case, writing and training. The perfect combination between sitting at a desk , wondering through fairy tale -like worlds and going to the gym or in the forest to maintain my health and have fun while doing it.

My day starts at 6 a.m. Not only because this allows me to have more time for my projects, but also because I simply love mornings!

First thing after my morning prayer, I have a short warming up training session.

Then is time for breakfast which I am trying to make as frugal as possible as I’m determined to lose some weight so that I can be in my best shape in October at The World Martial Arts Championship. Usually I try to come up with my own recipes so I can make this entire process more enjoyable. Sorry, but my recipes are strictly classified! Joking aside, the first meal of the day consists mostly of eggs, quality meat and tones of fruits and vegetables. Not really such a big secret, huh?

I also have the privilege to live in one of the most amazing cities I have ever seen.

Targoviste, is the old capital of Wallachia, which is located in the southern part of modern Romania.

This was the residence of King Dracula and 32 other kings of Wallachia, and I am truly lost for words in describing how much I love the atmosphere and people of my town.

Around 8 a.m. I start writing. I almost never have a set plan about what I should write. I just sit at my desk and whatever story comes to me, I say thank you, and start to put it on paper…or type it on my computer.

During the past couple of months I have been working with two very gifted book illustrators and my breaks in writing are just fantastic because I am checking and discussing with them the illustrated stories of “my” kings and heroes.

After another session of writing it’s time to prepare my daily workout karate routine.

I am 43 years old and have never felt better. The problem is, I am competing with fantastic guys around 25 years old. And they feel fantastic as well. Not the easiest thing in the world to defeat them.

I have decided that 2017 will be my last year taking part in a world championship. That’s why I’m hoping to win again and “go out” in a decent manner. Also, this will give me the huge satisfaction to add points to Romania in the general hierarchy of the WTKA(“World Traditional Karate, Kick Boxing, Kung Fu & All Styles Association”) federation.

Training for 2 or 3 hours is such a welcomed change of pace after sitting at my desk for the most part of my day.

In the middle of all that I have to run all the business side of my company, Ler Publishing House, where I am CEO and founder.

Evenings are usually for reading. I realized a few years ago that ever since I started writing…I stopped reading, which can`t be good. So I made a point in reading a little in the evening.

I find that the chapters of a good book can be the ideal transition between the real world- which is mostly imperfect- and the peace that you can create for yourself during the resting hours of the night..
